Alto saxophonist, composer and arranger, Miguel Zenón explored his Puerto Rican heritage on “Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook,” by offering virtuosic reworkings of two tunes from five of Puerto Rico’s most beloved songwriters. Zenón uses a regular jazz quartet augmented by a ten piece wind ensemble -including pianist Luis Perdomo, bassist Hans Glawischnig, and drummer Henry Cole, to explore the popular Puerto Rican tunes. The album cover is suggestive of a good time, in the street with a loved one, dancing to life’s jazz.
Be sure to check out the rest of the album, but here is our favorite feature, called “Amor.” Fullyjoy.
