Born in Saint Andrew, Horace Swaby, aka Augustus Pablo was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player, and keyboardist. His career prospered from the 1970′s onward with his fascination and popularization of the melodica, an instrument used mostly by schoolchildren. The instrument had never been taken seriously by professional musicians, but Augustus put it on the musical map to re-define the parameters of reggae music. He was constantly setting new standards and searching for new ideas, planting the seed of what was to become the minor-key dominated “Far East” sound of the future.

Producers in Jamaica are always looking for a new trend, a new style, and everyone in the studio knew immediately that Pablo’s playing was going to be it. One of the original Rockers, Augustus Pablo will always be remembered for his amazing contribution to Reggae music and his instantly recognizable style. We’ve decided to share with you one of his earlier works, the one that put him on the map,”This is Augustus Pablo,” recorded in 1974. It is a beautiful instrumental album featuring Pablo on piano, organ, clavinet and trusty melodica, recorded and produced at Randy’s studio. Fulljoy the sounds.

In a daring move worthy of praise from Mr. James Bond himself, Kingston based artist/producer Dorsh successfully translates the orchestral prowess of Adele’s new 007 Skyfall theme song into beautiful dance intelligence. While the original track paints a gorgeous silhouette of mystery and eloquence, Dorsh reinvigorates Adele’s voice with his signature soulful style.

Dorsh recently completed a Multi-City European Tour including a stop at the world renowned London night club, Fabric. He has already received praise from several industry heavy hitters including, King Britt, Mick Boogie, and London’s very own LTJ Bukem.

This remix is a true testament to the “Jaminglican’s” versatility as a producer, engineer, and overall master of sound. Even though Skyfall may signal the end for one historic character, this track is only the beginning for Dorsh.

This past Friday I had the chance to see these guys perform a stripped down set at the Soho House in NYC and I must say, it fell nothing short of spectacular.. They began the set with their currently hit single “We Come Running” and immediately the people did just that, they came running to the sweet sounds. In all it was a very solid performance from the L.A. based group and they even managed to bless us with “Juicy” by Biggie Smalls midway through their set. For me, this speaks volumes to their character for breaking down a cultural stereotype that deeply underlined the Biggie/2pac, East coast/West coast war that consequently took each of their lives. I’m not 100% sure if this was their message for playing the track, but I saw it that way, and I think that is was super intuitive and down right fresh! I truly look forward to hearing more from Youngblood Hawke in the near future as I know their journey will be one filled with joy. Big ups to the entire crew for being such wonderful people, blessings!

Neopolitan is much like the ice cream it is named after. It’ s a mixture of Reggae, Electro, Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rock, Dubstep, and R&B, flavors all blended into one creamy collection. When I sat down to conceptualize the Neopolitan album, I realized with my given “Jaminglican” (Jamaican, English, and American) heritage, that I was in a unique position to represent a significantly large group of people authentically. Having spent my entire life as a soccer player in the U.S. and abroad, I wanted the album to mirror the workings of the World Cup, and its function to bring people together from all parts of the globe. Soccer exposed me to many cultures and I felt it was only appropriate that I share my experiences through another universal language, music.

I made Neopolitan to show people that it is ok to be yourself, to celebrate differences, and to embrace more than ONE kind of music! People learn the best through music, and Neopolitan presents a new way to grasp the concept of a “diverse” album and artist.
